Doris Chen, cello, piano; Campolindo High School After hiking in Yosemite, visiting relatives, reading and relaxing, Doris plans to attend UCLA in the fall as a physiological science major. She plans to continue orchestral music playing in college. Doris has put in 300 hours volunteering at Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek, is a member of CSF and received high honors on the Golden State Exam in U.S. History
Anna Clark, flute, piccolo, piano; Antioch High School After working this summer Anna plans to attend college in the fall. Swimming, roller-blading, roller-hockey and water polo are among her hobbies. The Salutatorian of her high school, Anna has also received awards for swimming and water polo. She may minor in music in college, and hopes to continue playing for enjoyment.
Bryn Davies, bass, viola; Moreau Catholic High School Bryn is looking forward to a career in music performance. She intends to pursue this with college studies in music and Jazz performance. In addition to playing the cello, skateboarding ranks high among her hobbies. Bryn was a winner in the 1993 Monterey High School Jazz Competition and the 1994 Santa Cruz Jazz Competition. She also won a $1000 scholarship to the Berklee School of Music.
Sonja Downing, flute, piccolo; Acalanes High School Environmental engineering is the field that interests Sonja. After working this summer she intends to pursue her studies at Swarthmore in Pennsylvania. She wants to continue playing in college and hopes to be involved in chamber music and may also study music. Sonja received a National Merit letter of commendation as well as the Bank of America Achievement award in Liberal Arts.
Angela Fears, bassoon, bells; Patten Academy Angela has a long list of awards and honors for her musical talents. She won the Prometheus Concerto Competition in 1993 and has been in state honor band and orchestra. She also has a talent for writing and has been inducted into the International Society of Poets, and has been published in 3 poetry anthologies and was named journalist of the year. She intends to pursue studies in music performance at Patten College and possibly do graduate work at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Michael Fox, percussion; San Rafael High School Michael plans to work and show his car this summer and then attend the University of Nevada in the fall with a major in criminal justice. He eventually hopes to go into law. Represented in Whos Who among American High School students, Mike has awards in football and swimming as well as music. He was named most inspirational swimmer in 1993 and was the yearbook theme and student life editor.
Aimee Gallardo, flute, piccolo; College Park High School Aimees musical honors include 1992/1994 winner of YASO Concerto Competition, 1993 winner of OYO Concerto Competition and 1992 All-State band. She plans to attend Harvard in the fall and hopefully will have time for her hobbies, hiking, biking and cooking. Lessons, chamber music and orchestra are the ways Aimee plans to continue with her music.
Anna Gallardo, violin; College Park High School Anna plans to continue her music with lessons and/or chamber music. She will attend Harvard College in the fall and was a winner of the UC Berkeley Regents and Chancellors Scholarship, as well as a National Merit Semifinalist. Hiking, reading and cooking are among Annas hobbies.
Kathleen Hawkins, violin, piano; Lowell High School Kathleen has won musical honors from the California Music teachers Association for both the piano and violin. She has had extensive music experience, having been in nine quartets at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She has also been honored for her achievements in German by the Association of German Teachers. Kathleen plans to attend U.C. Davis in the fall and in the long term may pursue medicine or music or both.
Mary Lai, viola; Berkeley High School Mary has been working in her parents restaurant since she was in the eighth grade and spends time taking care of her 1 1/2 year old brother and other children. She participated in the Young Musicians Program and has been playing viola for 4 years. This fall she plans to attend U.C. Berkeley and hopes to own her own business and continue with community service. She wants to major in Education or Music Business and play in the university orchestra.
Sarah Lombardo, flute, piano, guitar Sarah received the Bank of America award for Instrumental Music in 1994 and was an All-State Symphonic Band Member. She enjoys playing piano and guitar as well as writing music. She wants to study music in college and hopefully play in an orchestra or chamber group.
Sherry Mosher, bassoon; Concord High School Sherry plans to visit Vienna, Germany and Hungary this summer and also work with the Springwood swim club. Her college choice may be either the University of Northern Colorado or university of the Pacific. She was in the Cal State Hayward Honor Band in 1992 and 1993, and in the Pacific Rim Honor Band in Hawaii in 1993. She enjoys painting and drawing as well as crafts and plans to continue with her music.
Isa Reichardt, cello; Lowell High School Isa plans to work in a lab at U.C.S.F. this summer before attending Harvard and majoring in the biochemical sciences. She will be the valedictorian for Lowell this year having ranked 1 out of 678. Among her other honors, she has excelled in French, Math and Chemistry. Isa achieved first place in the All City (SF) finals for the 100m butterfly. Swimming is one of her interests which also include traveling, reading, opera and baking bread. She hopes to continue her music in the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra and the cello choir.
Meerenai Shim, cello, flute; Novato High School Meerenai plans to be a flute performance major at San Francisco State University in the fall. Shed also like to study conducting and become a conductor. Interested in photography and art, Meerenai has received honors for her achievements in music. She won two scholarships from the Marin Music Chest. Meerenai was chosen for the CODA Honor Band, the Hayward State Honor Band and the Cal Poly Honor Band.
Lisa Weston, bassoon, piano; College Park High School Lisa plans to attend college after graduation and would like to continue her music. She will continue by playing in an orchestra and taking music lessons. Lisa has played the bassoon for 3 years and the piano for 10. One of her hobbies is reading.
