Erica Cande, viola

With 3 years in OYO, Erica is graduating the Lick-Wilmerding High School and is an AP Honor Scholar. She will attend Carleton College in the fall and plans to play in the orchestra.

 

Daniel Chan, cello

After one season in OYO Daniel is graduating Piedmont High and will attend UC Berkeley. He was a member of the All-State Orchestra and the American Composers Forum High School Program. This summer he will attend the Aspen Music Festival and plans to continue playing chamber and orchestra music at UCB.

 

Adelaide Cheng, violin

A 5-year OYO veteran, Adelaide will graduate from Piedmont High where she has been a cheerleader and youth educator. Last year she was a member of the OYO Board of Directors. Adelaide will attend UC Berkeley where she plans to major in Molecular Cell Biology and continue playing music for fun.

 

Jeff Hansen, bassoon, baritone sax

A member of OYO for 1 year, Jeff is graduating San Rafael High School and is preparing for conservatory auditions. In less than 3 years on the bassoon, Jeff has twice made the All State Band and All State Orchestra. He has been a member of the incredible award-winning San Rafael High Jazz Band and a member of the track team

 

Emily Hsu, violin

Emily has been with OYO for 3 years, and will graduate The Athenian School and attend the University of Pennsylvania, where she plans to join the orchestra. Emily won a National Honor Letter of Commendation and is an AP Scholar with honors.

 

Shavon Journaey Hutchison, bass

After 3 years in OYO Shavon will graduate from Deer Valley High. Last summer she toured Italy with the Stanford University Orchestra. She will attend the Accupressure Institute and SF State, where she plans to major in music. Von was a member of the OYO Board of Directors this year.

 

Scott Kagawa, trumpet

A 3-year OYO veteran, Scott will graduate Albany High and attend Northwestern University where he will major in music. He was a winner of the OYO and YPSO Concerto Competitions, a member of both All State and All Northern Honor Bands, as well as a delegate to CA Boys State and a Lifetime Member of the CA Scholastic Federation.

 

Kristen Kamrath, viola

Kristen is a 5-year OYO veteran who will graduate Acalanes High and attend Tufts University. She has also been a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, a National Merit Finalist, an AP Scholar, Finalist in Diablo Valley Symphony Concerto Competition, and won the Coach’s Award in cross country. Kristen plans to continue playing music and attend a veterinary school.

 

Grace Kim, violin

Grace, a 4-year member of OYO, will graduate from Miramonte High School and attend UC Berkeley, where she plans to join the orchestra. She has been the concertmaster at M.H.S. and a member of the Holy Names College Ensemble. Grace is a recipient of the Orinda Arts Council Music Scholarship.

 

Scott Pollack, oboe, english horn

A 4-year member of OYO, Scott will graduate from UC Berkeley (after 3 years, at age 19) with honors in Physics and a double major in Astrophysics. He will attend the University of Colorado in Boulder where he will be working on precision interferometry. Scott plans to continue studying oboe.

 

Margot Schwartz, violin

A 4-year OYO survivor, Concerto Competition winner and Concertmaster, Margot will graduate from San Domenico, where she was Student Body President this year. She will attend the Oberlin Conservatory after this summer’s tour with the Long Island Youth Orchestra.

 

Tabitha Shen, violin

A 4-year OYO veteran, Tabitha will graduate The College Preparatory School and attend Washington University in St. Louis, where she will be a Dean’s Honorary Scholar. She has been active in CPS Chamber Music and with her own quartet and is the recipient of Merit Level 10 with honors in both violin and piano.

 

Mark Ward, clarinet

A member of OYO for 4 years (non-consecutive) and a Concerto Competition winner, Mark is a music major graduating CSU Hayward. He was a member of the CSUH Wind Ensemble, and the SF Wind Symphony, and is working on an orchestral career.

 

Julia Zolinsky, violin

A 3-year OYO member, Julia is graduating Berkeley High and heading off to UCLA, where she plans to join the orchestra. She was a member of the BHS Honor Society and has been active both as a dancer and choreographer at BHS and in San Francisco. Julia also writes poetry.
