Hector Armienta Hector Armienta is an award-winning Mexican American composer, arts educator, and an arts advocate, whose largely focuses on the Latino cultural experience. Armienta, a resident of San Jose, CA was born in Los Angeles in 1962. His father was from Culiacan, Mexico, and his mother also of Mexican descent, was born in San Antonio, Texas. He began composing music before he was 10, and eventually attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he studied composition with Conrad Susa. Awards and commissions received by Armienta include Meet the Composer, National Endowment for the Arts, Arts International, Opera Pacific, the San Francisco Arts Commission, Oakland East Bay Symphony and Western Stage Theater.
